Private Health Insurance Complementing Public Health Care
There is no doubt that everybody needs a private health plan to supplement the assistance offered by the public health system. On the side of Rudd and his allies, they believe that the only way to fix the health system is to better manage the finances of public hospitals. But the opposition is quick to say that it is far better and cheaper in the long run to improve the health system itself rather than focusing on hospital facilities. True, public hospitals need improvement but its facilities will not be so used if people themselves are healthier. This is why it is important that health insurance covers basic services like mental and dental health which can correct an ailment before it becomes full blown. Private health insurance providers also offer support for those who are elderly so that they will not be prone to getting sick caused by negligence and poor health care. This is one aspect of health insurance especially private health insurance where the services are not just curative but preventive as well. It may also be a good point to stress to those people not too convinced of the value of private health insurance policy. Your private health plan may be used not only in times when you get really sick but also to treat the symptoms before it gets worst.
Another aspect of our health system that needs overhauling is the large bureaucracy that needs trimming. This will enable local public hospitals to make crucial decisions, which it has failed to do so, leaving many people to doubt the reform proposals of the government to improve health care. The key is to provide immediate and efficient health care delivery to every Australians. Public hospital care has not been attractive, which is why most people rather have private health insurance. Clearly the government has been unable to focus on preventive care particularly in an aging society. It may benefit people to have more hospital beds, but it would be better to work on improving the overall health of individuals to avoid getting into one.
